6 Ways to Reduce Global Warming

1. Recycle and Reuse

Reduce wastage by reusing and recycling plastics, paper, cans etc. This helps save a lot of energy which helps reduce the amount of carbon (as CO2) emission otherwise produced.

Recycle Paper - each ton (1016 Kg) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water!

  1. Carry a cloth bag with you while going shopping to avoid using plastic bags.
  2. Get aluminium, steel, paper and glass recycled.
  3. Buy products with minimum packing.
2. Manage Heat and Air Conditioning
Reduce the amount of energy you use by minimising the use of heating and cooling systems.

Lowering the thermostat by as little as 1°F can reduce the amount of heating energy by 1-3 percent. A thermostat setting of 68°F (20°C) is often recommended.

  1. Turn off heating and cooling devices whenever possible.
  2. Seal windows with cork or weather-stripping.
  3. Opt for opening up windows to allow fresh air during the day.
3. Plant More Trees
During the process of photosynthesis, plants and trees absorb carbon dioxide and give out oxygen (remember your school text books?), reducing the amount of CO2 in the air. But there simply aren't enough plants and trees to counter the vast number of CO2 emissions caused due to industries, vehicles etc!

A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.

  1. Plant more trees.
  2. While building a house, try and keep the existing trees intact by re-rooting them.
  3. Use paper efficiently to avoid cutting down trees that make the paper.
