February 2012
If looks could kill, Salman Khan would easily be charged for mass murder. Rippling muscles, devastating bright eyes, a killer smile and an affable charm, coupled with the glam factor is what makes Sallu click - and in a big way too!

Ask any shutterbug worth his Nikon and he would rave about those ohso- perfect muscles, those good looks, that abundance of confidence and obvious talent. And best of all, ask the girls next door who can’t stop drooling over the pin-up boy who has stormed the industry with his super hits.

To cap it all, the filmmakers simply love him, and what’s more, they can’t stop raving about his phenomenal acting prowess. ‘He’s like magic on screen!’ Discipline and dedication have been the two pillars of Salman’s fitness success. Today, of course his body speaks for his dedication. No matter how punishing his shooting schedule, Salman will find time to exercise.

Girls hold on to your hearts, guys don’t turn green. But read on nevertheless…

How important is family to you? How important a role has it played in helping you reach the peak of stardom?
My family is central to my life. They have seen me through good and bad times. I couldn’t have asked for a better support system.

How close are you to your mom and sisters? How has your mom influenced you?
I’m a complete mamma’s boy! She is the most beautiful person I have ever seen. I’ve learnt so much, growing up in the company of these three amazingly strong women… I think the world of them!

How do you spend your time with brothers, sisters-in-law and their kids?
I love spending any spare time I get with my family. Watching my nieces and nephews grow is a wonderful experience. I love playing the role of the indulgent uncle when it comes to them. We all just returned from a family holiday in Dubai.

Which is your favourite travel destination?
Panvel - I love going to my farm in Panvel whenever I have some time off.

What inspired you set up the Being Human Foundation? How closely are you involved in it?
If God has been good to you, it is your responsibility to do something for those who are less fortunate. In order to carry out philanthropic work in a more structured manner, Being Human: The Salman Khan Foundation was founded. To increase the reach of the Foundation, we have started Being Human T-shirts and watches, the royalties from which go into the Foundation and are used for the twin causes we support – education and healthcare.

How were you able to cope with the disorder Trigeminal Neuralgia for seven odd years? And how did you deal with the pain and the surgery in the midst of shooting for Ek Tha Tiger?

I had to cut short the promotional schedule of Bodyguard by three days and leave for the US for my treatment. After treatment, I flew to Dublin and commenced shooting for Ek Tha Tiger.

Looks and a great body are the prerequisites for an actor – were you ever worried that the disorder could affect the way you look?
I had a great team of doctors along with the good wishes and prayers of all my supporters, so I wasn’t worried.

You were labeled as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by the People magazine in 2010. How did that feel?
I don’t take these titles too seriously. However, I am grateful to my fans for continuously showering me with their love and support.

How important is ‘diet’ for you? What kind of diet do you follow at home and when on a shoot?

I love any food that my mom cooks. I miss it when I am away from home.

Do you think diet supplements are essential for bodybuilding? Do you believe in taking protein shakes or is it only ghar ka khana?
I carry only ghar ka khana to all my shoots and mom ensures she packs enough for the entire unit!

What is your typical workout routine? It has been said that you prefer to work out at midnight or in the wee hours of the day. Is that true and is there any specific reason why you choose to do so?
It’s important to train regularly. My timing varies depending on shoot schedules. I run for an hour before hitting the gym.

Which was your favourite sport as a child?
Football and cricket were my favs.

Which do you enjoy more and why – swimming or cycling?
I love’s a great workout and doesn’t pollute the environment. Also, it’s a lot easier to manoeuvre through traffic on a cycle, especially when I need to get to a shoot.

Yoga seems to have captured the fitness scene today. Is it Yoga or gymming alone that is essential to have a sculpted body? Also which is your favourite workout?
To each his own.

You are considered ‘A Complete Man’… ‘A Great Actor’… How much of dedication and hard work does it involve to be recognized so? What would be your advice for your fans?
There is no substitute for hard work. Once you involve yourself in something you are passionate about, you settle for nothing less than perfect, and that shows in the work you do. So believe in yourself, give it your best shot and success will soon follow.

Do you feel that fashion and style go hand in hand for men too? Share your super secret.
My sister Alvira and designer Ashley Rebello style all my shoots. All credit goes to them.

How do you unwind after a tiring day of shoot?

I like working out in my gym, watching a movie with friends and playing with my dogs.
