Rapid Eye Movement Behavior Disorder (RBD)


Rapid eye movement behavior disorder (RBD) is a condition where a person enacts violent dreams with physical movements and sounds during REM stage sleep.

Its causes are not known.

Symptoms occur while the person is asleep and include:

  • Twitching or moving limbs
  • Talking or shouting
  • Injuring self or the bed partner
  • Walking out of bed

This condition is chronic but treatable in most cases. Treatment includes:

  • Medication called clonazepam

Since the cause is not known, there is no prevention for this condition.
