Muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic diseases causing progressive weakness and degeneration of the muscles in the human body.

There is no cure for muscular dystrophy. The quality of life can be improved by:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Orthopedic instruments like wheelchairs
  • Drugs like corticosteroids to slow progression of disease
  • Pacemaker for heart abnormalities
  • Assisted ventilation for respiratory problems
  • Surgery on the spine to improve movement

There is no way to prevent this condition.
