Muscle Strain


Muscle strain is overstretching or tearing of a muscle or tendon.


  • Twisting or stretching the muscle due to sudden movements or heavy lifting
  • Trauma
  • Overuse of the muscle or tendon


  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Weakness of the muscle
  • Loss of muscle function 


  • Rest
  • Ice packs
  • Compression by wrapping the affected area
  • Keeping the affected area elevated
  • NSAIDs


  • Warm up before workouts and strenuous physical activities
  • Regular stretching and strengthening exercises
  • Avoid sudden movements
  • Avoid repetitive overuse of muscles
