Infectious Mononucleosis


Infectious mononucleosis or kissing disease is a viral disease usually found in young adults.


  • Virus, usually Epstein-Barr virus (EPV)
  • Saliva of infected person


  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Swollen lymph glands
  • Enlarged spleen

Treatment is usually not required and symptoms can be managed by:

  • Resting
  • Consuming plenty of fluids
  • Lozenges or salt water gargle to soothe the throat


  • Avoid sharing food or utensils with an infected person
Avoid kissing or taking in saliva of an infected person
