Giant Cell Arteritis or Temporal Arteritis is a condition causing inflammation and obstruction of blood flow in the arteries of the body especially those around the head and neck.
Causes are unknown.
- Headache especially in the temple area
- Tenderness on the scalp and temple area
- Jaw pain on chewing
- Pain and stiffness around the neck, shoulders and hips
- Weight loss
- Loss of vision
- Oral steroids to reduce swelling in the arteries and improve the blood flow
There is no way to prevent it.
