Giant Cell Arteritis

 

Giant Cell Arteritis or Temporal Arteritis is a condition causing inflammation and obstruction of blood flow in the arteries of the body especially those around the head and neck.

Causes
Causes are unknown.

Symptoms

  • Headache especially in the temple area
  • Tenderness on the scalp and temple area
  • Jaw pain on chewing
  • Pain and stiffness around the neck, shoulders and hips
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Loss of vision

Treatment

  • Oral steroids to reduce swelling in the arteries and improve the blood flow

Prevention
There is no way to prevent it.
