Febrile Seizures


Febrile seizures are convulsions during high fever in young children, usually between the ages of 6 months and 5 years.


  • High fever usually over 102° Fahrenheit
  • Heredity


  • High fever
  • Rolling of the eyes
  • Rigidity in the body
  • Twitching or shaking of the limbs
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Incontinence
  • Loss of consciousness

Mostly, the seizures are harmless and subside within a few seconds to15 minutes requiring no treatment. In case of prolonged seizures treatment may include:

  • Providing oxygen when breathing is not appropriate
  • Medications to reduce temperature

There is no way to prevent febrile seizures.
