Endometriosis

 

Endophthalmitis is a condition where inflammation occurs in the eyeball or the intraocular cavities.

Causes 

  • Bacteria
  • Fungi
  • Trauma
  • Intravenous drug
  • Surgical incision
  • Abscess

Symptom

  • Pain in the eye
  • Redness in the eye
  • Sensitivity to bright light
  • Loss of vision

Treatment
Endophthalmitis is a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment to prevent vision loss. It includes:

  • Intravitreal antibiotic injections
  • Surgery including vitrectomy  to remove infected tissue 

Prevention

  • Using certain antibiotics before and after eye surgeries
  • Using preoperative povidone iodine before eye surgeries
  • Avoiding eye trauma
