Ehlers Danlos Syndrome


Ehlers Danlos syndrome is a group of disorders that affect the connective tissues that support the skin, bones, muscles and blood vessels.


  • Genetic factors

Symptoms vary according to the type of disorder. They include:

  • Extremely loose joints
  • Joint dislocations
  • Extreme elasticity in the skin
  • Smooth and velvety skin
  • Thin or translucent skin
  • Easy bruising
  • Easily damaged blood vessels
  • Poor wound healing
  • Muscle weakness
  • Rupture of internal organs
  • Vision problems

There is no cure for this syndrome and treatment depends on the symptoms. It may include:

  • Physical therapy to strengthen muscles
  • Bracing to support unstable joints
  • Rarely, surgery to treat dislocated joints or other symptoms

There is no way to prevent this syndrome.
