Diabetic Nephropathy


Diabetic nephropathy is a progressive condition of kidney damage.


  • Chronic diabetes

Symptoms develop only in the later stages:

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Edema or fluid retention causing swelling in the body
  • Proteinuria or loss of protein in urine
  • Foaming or frothing of urine
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Hiccups
  • Itching
  • Body pains
  • Fatigue

This condition is irreversible but treatment is given to slow down the progression and prevent complications. It includes:

  • Medications to control high blood pressure, proteinuria and urinary tract infections
  • Monitoring and controlling blood sugar levels
  • Dialysis
  • Kidney transplant
