Delusional Disorder

Delusional disorder is a chronic psychological condition where a person firmly believes in some non-bizarre delusion/ delusions or imaginary ideas which actually do not exist.

Causes are not clear but some possibilities are:

  • Heredity

  • Stress
  • Substance abuse

  • Delusions or false beliefs despite proof of their non existence
  • No cognitive impairment and absence of any other psychotic symptoms
  • Hallucinations related to the false belief

  • Antipsychotic medication
  • Psychotherapy to educate the patient and the family about the problem

There is no known way to prevent delusional disorders.
