Bulimia Nervosa

 

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder leading to excessive eating followed by purging.

Causes
Causes are not clear but possibilities are:

  • Heredity
  • Low self esteem
  • Substance abuse
  • Psychological problems
  • Sociocultural pressure to stay slim

Symptoms

  • Binge eating
  • Induced vomiting
  • Excessive exercising
  • Fasting
  • Using laxatives
  • Fear of becoming fat
  • Depression
  • Throat inflammation
  • Teeth problems

Treatment
There is no fixed treatment for curing bulimia. It can include a combination of the following:

  • Psychotherapy or counseling
  • Antidepressant medication
